Artist's Comments

Alright, Briar Starsong, my half-satyr spellsinger D&D character, is officially finished.

I commissioned nJoo to do his own version of the original lineart in his awesome digital painting style and then blended it with the actual lines to make this. The original now lurks in my personal cache and since it's not my art, I have no right to post it. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with how it turned out and my thanks go out to nJoo for his all of his hard work!!!

He is a grandmaster of art. Check out his gallery here: [link]

EDIT: God, I feel awful. I just realized that I didn't include nJoo's signature! >_< There, all better.

Just curious, why can't he inflict the sonic damage himself? He's already using music somehow (I'm assuming a flute of some kind), and the music probably is magical in some way since he is manipulating spirits. It just seems like a very small step from there to say that satyrs have an inherent ability to psionicly or magically manipulate sound to perform these effects, as well as charm or confuse or some such thing.

How funny that you should bring that up! I thought at great length on this very subject, but it seemed that the commonly established precedent for the internal production of sonic damage attacks is a trademark sonic scream or wail. As the character is a bard and a singer (since I myself am one as well), I wanted something more musical and thought that his interaction with sound elementals and music spirits would be a nice tie-in to his fey heritage.

I guess I had envisioned him producing the sound then reaching out with his mind, grabbing the sound waves, then in a flinging-sling effect (if that makes any sense) create the destructive sonic waves. Which could possibly create interesting situational effects, for example if a gang of whatever charged him, and the leader let out a war cry, under this theory then your character should have some leverage to teach said whatever that that's not a great idea. Although I will admit that the communion with elementals does fit wonderfully. : )

Well, now my DM is letting me design a base class for this character that closely mirrors what your idea. It's sort of like, he sings magic with his heart and voice, and his music reaches out and magically manipulates his own spells, creating destructive sonic blasts and other kinds of goodness.

That sounds fantastic ^-^. I'm preparing to run my first Campaign as Dm with a couple of friends who have never played before, and I'm finding I really enjoy tweaking things and customizing the game to be unique.

I like the outfit and the painting of it, but maybe the black lines under the pecs could be painted out -- the black lines under his pecs are less visually successful. Nice face, too!
